Papirus Icon Theme Picks Up 64 New App Icons, Including Etcher, Standard Notes and InSync
Papirus is a free and open source SVG icon theme for Linux, based on Paper Icon Set with a lot of new icons and a few extras, like Hardcode-Tray support, KDE colorscheme support, Folder Color support, and others.
Papirus icon theme is available in four variants:
- Papirus (for a light theme with a dark panel)
- Papirus Dark
- Papirus Light
- ePapirus (for elementary OS and Pantheon Desktop)
Earlier this month the Papirus icon set received a small bump update, broadening the theme’s app coverage and fixing a few mis-named glyphs in the process.
Among the 64 new icons are colourful emblems for:

Boostnote
Dino
Entangle
Etcher
Gitter
GNOME Usage
InSync
KeePassXC
Standard Notes
TeeWorlds
Visual Studio Code
Vectr
WoeUSB
There are also “fixed” icons for game chat app Discord, the SeaMonkey internet suite, and system cleaner app Stacer.
Installation
Ubuntu and derivatives
You can install Papirus from official PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:papirus/papirus
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install papirus-icon-theme
or download .deb packages from here.
Debian and derivatives
Debian users also can install Papirus from PPA, but the commands will differ:
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/papirus-ppa.list << EOF
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/papirus/papirus/ubuntu xenial main
EOF
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com E58A9D36647CAE7F
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install papirus-icon-theme
Papirus Installer
Use the scripts to install the latest version directly from this repo (independently on your distro):
NOTE: Use the same script to update icon themes.
